STANDARD 1 STATEMENT :
I demonstrate understanding of young children’s development from birth through age 8 and use this knowledge to create learning environments that are healthy, respectful, supportive, and appropriately challenging.
ARTIFACT
Artifact: Child Development Observation Report
I observed a 4-year-old child during free play for 30 minutes. I documented how the child built a block tower, counted blocks aloud (cognitive development), and invited peers to join (social-emotional development). I noted fine motor skills when stacking blocks and problem-solving when the tower fell.
RATIONALE STATEMENT
This artifact demonstrates my ability to observe and understand children’s developmental stages (1a) by analyzing physical, cognitive, and social emotional growth. It also reflects my understanding of multiple influences on development (1b), such as family background and environment. Using this knowledge, I designed learning activities that support and challenge each child appropriately (1c), ensuring a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
